All Ages Printmaking: Roy Lichtenstein with Blackburn Printshopmuseum

All Ages Printmaking: Roy Lichtenstein with Blackburn Printshop

Whitney Museum of American Art · Meatpacking District

Artists of all ages are invited to celebrate the opening day of Roy Lichtenstein: Like New! Join master printers from the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop to experiment with screen printing and pochoir techniques and create your own Lichtenstein-inspired tote bag! Roy Lichtenstein changed the way we see images. One of the defining artists of the Pop art movement, he turned the visual language of mass culture, comics, advertising, consumer goods, and commercial printing into some of the most recognizable images of the twentieth century. His work looked cool, crisp, and machine-made, but was meticulously handmade, revealing an artist fascinated by how images are built, copied, enlarged, circulated, and made new. Founded in 1947 by visionary artist and master printer Robert Blackburn, the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop (RBPMW) is the longest-running community printshop in the United States. In 2002, Blackburn ensured the continuity of this legacy by relocating the workshop to the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts (EFA). Today, RBPMW upholds Blackburn’s mission by providing an accessible and affordable studio environment that supports both traditional and contemporary printmaking concepts. Through fellowships, workshops, discussions, and exhibitions, RBPMW advances its educational initiatives within a welcoming environment built on fairness, shared access, and artistic excellence.

All Ages Artmaking: Windowscape Drawings

Whitney Museum of American Art · Meatpacking District

Artists of all ages are invited to celebrate the opening day of Roy Lichtenstein: Like New! Join Whitney Educators on the Floor 5 terrace to create your own windowscape drawing. Consider the many windows visible from the Whitney’s terrace. Imagine the people, places, and stories that might be unfolding behind each one, and the entirely different view someone looking out from that window might see. Create your own work of art looking into, or looking out of, a window. In New York World's Fair Mural (Girl in Window), 1964, Lichtenstein depicts a woman framed by a window. What might be happening in the space around her, and what might she see when she looks beyond the frame?
