About this event

Join us on America’s 250th Anniversary Tour of Fort Greene, where you will have the opportunity to take a Walking Tour highlighting the rich, complex, and evolving legacy of Fort Greene Park. This tour will explore Fort Greene’s historical relationship to the American Revolutionary War, using monuments and storytelling to trace the significance of the Battle of Brooklyn, the founding of Fort Greene Park, and the legacy of prison ship martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the war. Local historians, Natasha Fearon and Alexandra Stevens, will couple historical background with the park’s living memory to unravel how struggles over freedom and remembrance continue to shape Brooklyn today. Seashells In Color | Painting From Life In Oils

Industry City · Greenwood Heights

Discover how much color lives inside a seemingly simple shell. Each participant will have a real seashell to observe and paint from life. We’ll begin by choosing an angle and arranging a simple composition, then explore how to translate its curves, subtle colors, and shadows into a small oil study. With step-by-step demonstrations and individual guidance from artist Kristina Dubrovskaia, you’ll practice mixing warm and cool tones, using light and shadow to create volume, and choosing which details to emphasize. The focus is on learning to look closely and paint with greater confidence, while leaving room for your own expressive brushwork. All painting materials and shells to work from are provided. Beginners and painters with some experience are welcome.
