About this event

The SHSAT is changing. Beginning in Fall 2026, the exam will shift to a digital, computer-adaptive format—a major change in how students take the test. Our 13-week Comprehensive Course is fully updated to reflect this new format and is designed to prepare students for both the academic content and the digital testing experience. The course begins in the spring of 7th grade and continues into the fall of 8th grade, concluding just before the SHSAT. It’s a great fit for students just beginning their prep, as well as those continuing from our Winter Skill-Builder course, which focuses on solidifying core ELA and math fundamentals. The Comprehensive course builds on that foundation, moving into more advanced content and test-specific strategies aligned with the new digital format. We start with a mini-diagnostic in ELA and math to help tailor instruction to the group’s needs as we move through the curriculum. While the SHSAT will continue to assess 7th grade math and ELA standards, the computer-adaptive format introduces new features, including adaptive question sequencing, updated navigation rules, and tech-enhanced items (TEIs). Students will learn strategies specifically designed for this format, helping them manage time effectively, navigate the interface confidently, and avoid common pitfalls. Students receive targeted homework after each class to reinforce key skills and strategies. A summer practice packet is also included to support continued progress between semesters. Throughout the course, students complete three full-length, proctored digital practice tests featuring TEIs that replicate the official testing interface. These are administered in person at our center to provide a realistic and fully supervised testing experience that mirrors actual exam conditions. The Comprehensive course includes: Spring : 7 two-hour classes + 1 proctored digital test in June Fall : 6 two-hour classes + 2 proctored digital tests in August/September and October Total : 26 instructional hours + 3 proctored full-length digital practice exams As the DOE continues to release updates, we are actively refining our materials to ensure students are fully prepared for every aspect of the new SHSAT.

SHSAT Prep Course, The Final Countdown!

Mon, Sep 14 · 5:30 PM

Tutoring Center - Smith Street Workshop · Carroll Gardens

The Fall Final Countdown is a fast-paced, high-impact SHSAT course designed to help students finish strong and walk into test day with confidence. As students begin 8th grade, they’re ready to engage with more advanced content, timed practice, and strategy work tailored to the new digital, computer-adaptive SHSAT. This course is identical to the fall portion of our 13-week Comprehensive SHSAT program. This course is an ideal follow-up for students who participated in our Winter Skill-Builder course, Spring Prep course, Summer Intensive Workshop, or a combination of those programs, building on the foundation established earlier in the year. Students continue to strengthen their test-taking skills through targeted instruction, strategy reinforcement, and timed drills designed to sharpen pacing and accuracy under pressure. Instruction focuses on helping students apply strategies confidently, adapt to the digital format, and approach the test with precision and endurance. All materials are new and carefully selected to challenge students at this stage in their preparation. Homework is assigned after each class to reinforce skills, strengthen retention, and build test-day stamina. New students are certainly welcome, but we recommend a solid foundation in 7th grade SHSAT math and ELA content, as the course moves at a brisk pace and assumes familiarity with core concepts. This course is designed as the final phase of a longer SHSAT prep process, rather than a stand-alone program. If any major gaps in foundational knowledge are identified, we may recommend supplementing the course with one-on-one tutoring to ensure students can keep up and get the most out of the program. The Fall Final Countdown includes: 12 hours of instruction (6 weekly sessions, 2 hours each) 2 full-length, proctored digital practice exams, featuring tech-enhanced items (TEIs) Detailed score reports and individualized feedback to track progress As with all of our SHSAT offerings, we continue to adapt our curriculum to reflect updates from the DOE and ensure students are fully prepared for the current exam format.

Ages 1–2: Parent & Me Soccer This 30-minute soccer class is designed for young walkers, toddlers, and children experiencing a group activity for the first time. Parents or caregivers actively participate alongside their child. Activities focus on movement, balance, coordination, exploring the soccer ball, following simple directions, and becoming comfortable in the class environment. Children at this age are not expected to complete every activity. It is completely normal for them to observe, take breaks, wander, or need extra support from their grown-up. Class Location: Carroll Park (on President Street & Court Street) We play on the blacktop. Choosing the Right Class Class Age Groups: 1&2, 2&3, 3&4, 4&5 Our age ranges are guidelines. Families should select the class that best matches their child’s age, experience, independence, attention span, and comfort level. Children do not need to move into the next group immediately after their birthday. For example, a child who recently turned three may still be most comfortable in the Ages 2–3 class. A child who is three-and-a-half or approaching four and can participate more independently may be ready for the Ages 3–4 class. Our coaches may recommend a different group after observing a child if we believe another class would provide a better experience.
