, Photo Credits: Maike Shulz Discover the rich history and traditions associated with the holiday Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) through family-friendly crafts, performances, music, and hands-on activities. Celebrated throughout Latin America from October 31st to November 2nd, this holiday is a time for family and friends to commemorate departed loved ones through altars, music, food, and dance. Please consider a $10 donation to Green-Wood when registering. Your donation will help ensure that we can continue to provide engaging family programs at little or no cost to the public. Price: Free. Before Registering, Please Note: Where to go: The event takes place at the Main Entrance Meadow (Fifth Avenue and 25th Street) and near the Historic Chapel, located just a short distance from the Main Entrance. No paper or e-tickets will be necessary. Attendees will not be checked in; registration is to gauge attendance. For Your Comfort and Safety: The 5-minute walk to the Historic Chapel includes uneven terrain and stairs. We strongly encourage attendees to wear suitable footwear. A vehicle will be available to transport those who need assistance getting to the site. Feeling Sick? Stay home if you are feeling sick or running a fever. Inclement Weather Policy: We monitor the weather throughout the day for the best chance of proceeding with the event and will not make a final decision until at least 3 hours before the start time. Stitching together creativity and community, this knitting and crocheting group is unique for one reason: it meets in a cemetery. Whether you’re an expert with yarn or just starting out, you are welcome to join us as we share stories, skills, and grief resources in the comfort of Green-Wood’s Modern Chapel. As we create together, we’ll talk about the significance of handmade items in both our personal and collective histories. To hear about past attendees’ experiences, listen to and/or read this piece featured on NPR. Beginners can join our knitting and crochet tutorial groups, while experienced crafters are encouraged to bring ongoing projects and mentor others. Feel free to bring your own yarn, needles, and hooks; some materials will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Not a knitter? Not to worry, you can bring whatever other crafts you are working on. Free. Registration required. Out of respect for the grounds, masks and costumes are not permitted and guests wearing them will not be admitted on the tour. The dead don’t keep visiting hours, but we do! Join us after dark for a walk through Green-Wood’s history, legends, and secrets. And before you depart, step inside the Catacombs, a space that is normally locked to the public. Price: $30/24 for Members Get Tickets Walking Tour (see details below) BEFORE PURCHASING YOUR TICKET, PLEASE NOTE: All ticket sales are final. Refunds are only permissible if the tour is canceled by Green-Wood. Tickets cannot be exchanged for a different tour date. Walking tour routes cover hilly, grassy, and uneven terrain which may be difficult to navigate. This tour is not ADA compliant and is not recommended for children under the age of 10. This is gonna be one heck of a dance party under the stars. This is the seminal 1984 American concert film featuring a live performance by the American rock band Talking Heads. The film was directed by Jonathan Demme and executive produced by Gary Kurfirst, the band’s longtime manager. The film was shot over four nights in December 1983 at Hollywood’s Pantages Theatre while Talking Heads were on tour promoting their fifth studio album, Speaking in Tongues (1983). Stop Making Sense includes performances of the early Talking Heads single “Psycho Killer” (1977), through to their most recent hit at the time, “Burning Down the House” (1983). It also includes songs from the solo career of frontman David Byrne and by Tom Tom Club, the side project of drummer Chris Frantz and bassist Tina Weymouth. Some have said it’s the greatest band document of all time.
