In this workshop specifically designed for ages 5 - 7, kids engage in self-directed play, material exploration, and project building. Our aim is for kids to be deeply engaged in activities of their choosing and we recognize that this looks different for each kid! Kids get the attention and structure they need to follow their imaginations in a supportive environment that offers freedom to create, build, dream, read, observe or just BE! Using the KoKo Lot and our reclaimed/found objects as inspiration, KoKo NYC Teaching Artists help kids imagine possibilities and bring their ideas to life. In Camp KoKo, kids may choose to use handsaws, tape, battery-operated drills, small motors, and electronics to build their projects. Pick-up available from PS 10, PS 295, PS 321 Upper, and PS 130 Lower. Pick-up is an optional add-on that applies to the full semester. The cost for pick-up is $119 ($17/session). Boat Building is a “Sink AND Swim” workshop that explores the physics of boat building by creating flotation structures. Kids learn how to use planning, engineering, woodworking, and critical thinking to create functional boats and models. They explore traditional and experimental methods based on their own sensibilities. Boats will be created out of found materials. We create blueprints and small model floats, steering mechanisms, as well as an actual boat / floating contraption which will be tested in the waters of Brooklyn. Kids will use handsaws, battery-operated drills, and other tools in this workshop. The class will culminate in a Maiden Voyage in June 2027 , where kids will set sail at Plumb Beach !
