About this event

Grades 3-5 The library has partnered with the Livingston High School Fire Robotics Team to offer an exciting, interactive, 3 hour coding workshop! This hands-on program introduces children to the foundations of coding and robotics that make learning to code engaging, accessible, and fun. During the workshop, children will: Learn basic coding concepts using block-based programming that’s perfect for beginners Experiment with problem-solving and logical thinking based activities Collaborate with Livingston High School Robotics mentors, gaining support and inspiration This workshop encourages creativity, curiosity, and teamwork while helping young learners build confidence in their coding abilities. No matter the level of coding experience, participants will have a blast programming bots and watching their code come to life! Pizza will be served. LHS Fire Robotics Team: The Livingston High School Fire Robotics Team is committed to making STEM education accessible, engaging, and empowering for young learners through our Outreach Programs such as the Hour of Code. Our goal is to introduce elementary students to foundational coding & robotics concepts in a way that emphasizes creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on exploration. By pairing block-based programming with real-world robotics applications, we help students see how code translates into action using our very own TEAMFIRE iteration process. Through mentorship and interactive learning, we aim to spark long-term interest in STEM while building confidence, curiosity, and teamwork skills in the next generation of innovators. Parents, caregivers, and children ages 1-2 years old enjoy stories and songs based on the theme of the day. This program is repeated at 11am as a ticketed event. To prepare for Storytime: Bring your child to the library. Children who visit in advance and are familiar with their surroundings tend to be less apprehensive and more attentive. Read to your child daily! Reading helps to provide early language and literacy skills, helps build memory with repetition, provides phonological awareness and listening skills, helps children develop a lifetime love of books, and so much more! Day of Storytime: Plan to arrive 10-15 minutes before storytime begins. Arriving on time gives you a chance to socialize with others and ensures that you will be able to participate in all of the fun activities of the session. We also aim to minimize distractions and be respectful to the group. Parent/Caregiver participation is essential to storytime success! Adults model good behavior for children by being attentive and listening to the stories and songs. Maximize your storytime experience by muting all devices and saving adult conversations until after story time. Do not bring food to storytime. For the safety of the group and to minimize distractions, do not bring food to storytime. Breastfeeding and bottle feeding are welcomed. If your child is not interested, it’s OK to step away and “regroup.” You can always try again a few minutes later or on another day. This program is made possible by the generosity of the Friends of the Livingston Library.
