About this event

Makers of History is a series where we engage in STEM activities inspired by famous figures. In our interactive sessions, we will learn about famous trailblazers and make our own creations based upon their work in the field of science. This event is open to children in grades K-5. For Native American Heritage Month, we will learn about skilled artisans like Mabel Burnside Myers, a Diné weaver who made beautiful textiles like blankets. She also meticulously documented the types of plants used to create the colorful dyes used in Diné (Navajo) art. Then we'll use handheld digital microscopes to look more closely at materials like wool, cotton, polyester, and more to compare and contrast what the strands of material look like up close. This program is made possible by the generosity of the Friends of the Livingston Library.

Toddler Time (Ages 1-2)

Tue, Nov 10 · 10:15 AM

Livingston Public Library · Livingston

Parents, caregivers, and children ages 1-2 years old enjoy stories and songs based on the theme of the day. This program is repeated at 11am as a ticketed event. To prepare for Storytime: Bring your child to the library. Children who visit in advance and are familiar with their surroundings tend to be less apprehensive and more attentive. Read to your child daily! Reading helps to provide early language and literacy skills, helps build memory with repetition, provides phonological awareness and listening skills, helps children develop a lifetime love of books, and so much more! Day of Storytime: Plan to arrive 10-15 minutes before storytime begins. Arriving on time gives you a chance to socialize with others and ensures that you will be able to participate in all of the fun activities of the session. We also aim to minimize distractions and be respectful to the group. Parent/Caregiver participation is essential to storytime success! Adults model good behavior for children by being attentive and listening to the stories and songs. Maximize your storytime experience by muting all devices and saving adult conversations until after story time. Do not bring food to storytime. For the safety of the group and to minimize distractions, do not bring food to storytime. Breastfeeding and bottle feeding are welcomed. If your child is not interested, it’s OK to step away and “regroup.” You can always try again a few minutes later or on another day. This program is made possible by the generosity of the Friends of the Livingston Library.
