About this event

Let's journey to the Moon at the Main Library! We will learn all about the phases of the Moon using Oreo cookies to create a deliciously informative lunar chart to take home!* For children in grades 1-5. Registration is required. Children attend independently. Parent or caregiver must remain in the Library during the event. Space is limited. Registration opens on Monday, September 14. Please note that failure to cancel at least 24 hours before the event or not attending the event at all will result in a limited ability to register for future events. *We cannot guarantee that food served at this program has not come into contact with peanuts, tree nuts, soy, or other allergens.

Explore, play, and grow together! Literacy Play Lab is a hands-on early learning program designed for young children and their caregivers. This event features engaging materials such as books, toys, sensory activities, puzzles, games, and other interactive learning tools that help build early literacy skills. Children will develop language, vocabulary, fine motor skills, creativity, and social-emotional skills while caregivers discover fun, simple ways to support early literacy development in their kiddos. Come play, explore, and build a love of reading! For children 18 months up to 5 years old with their caregiver. Registration is required and is separate for each class each week. Please register each child individually. Space is limited. Registration opens at 8:00 pm on Wednesday the week prior. Please only attend ONE class of each type each week since they are the same class offered multiple times. In order to provide the best learning environment for all participants, we are unable to allow access, regardless of registration, if you arrive 10 minutes after the program starts.

Girls Who Code Club Thursdays: September 17 & 24; October 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29; November 5, 2026 • 4:00 pm Girls Who Code is an international non-profit organization dedicated to closing the gender gap in technology. Girls Who Code Clubs are spaces where girls can join our sisterhood of supportive peers and use computer science to change the world. Grades 3-5 Clubs help build the foundational skills and understanding of computer science concepts and sisterhood through reading discussion and coding activities. Practice new skills by completing fun and simple online coding tutorials and build community with the rest of your Club. For girls in grades 3-5. Registration is required and is for ALL 8 weeks. Participation is expected for ALL 8 weeks; please only register if you are able to attend each class date. Children attend independently. Parent or caregiver must remain in the Library during the event. Space is limited. Registration opens on Thursday, August 27. Please note that failure to cancel at least 24 hours before the event or not attending the event at all will result in a limited ability to register for future events. Please note: Each club member will also need to register on Girls Who Code HQ—their official online platform—to enroll in Fairfield Public Library’s Girls Who Code Club. Club members will receive instructions on how to do this closer to the start date.

In the fall of 1778, Washington was occupied with ascertaining British intentions through his spy network in New York City. Join teacher & historian Jeffrey Denman for a book talk exploring Washington’s northern campaigns after 1778, which are often overlooked but demonstrate Washington’s great skill in strategy, logistics, and diplomacy. Discover the impact of the raids of New Haven, Fairfield, and Norwalk in 1779 and the final years of the Revolutionary War. Book sale & signing to follow. Members: $5; Non-Members: $10. About the Speaker Jeffrey A. Denman is a retired American history and geography teacher from Brookline Public Schools in Brookline, MA. He has written articles and books dealing with the American Revolution, the Civil War, World War II, and other topics in American history. His latest book is Closing the Ring: George Washington’s War in the North, 1778-1781. Denman is the father of nine children and twenty-two grandchildren as of this writing. An avid outdoorsman, he has climbed several 14,000-foot peaks in Colorado and Mt. St. Helens in Washington, and has enjoyed canoeing on the Upper Missouri River in the footsteps of Lewis and Clark.
