About this event

Join us on 9-25 (9 to 5!) to celebrate the radiant life of American Icon Dolly Parton in the way she’d love most, with stories, songs, sparkles, and enough laughter to raise the roof. Even when Dolly made it big, she never forgot that what really makes you rich isn’t the rhinestones and the pearls, but the love you find in community and the kindness you share with others. Raised alongside eleven siblings in a little one-room cabin in Tennessee, she grew up singing as she worked, and saw the power of music to move and uplift people. Dolly also saw the things that keep people down. Her parents were smart, hard-working people, but her daddy never learned to read or write and it held him back in life. Recognizing literacy as a life changing skill, Dolly made it her mission to ensure that every child has the chance her daddy never got. In 1995 she began Imagination Library, a charity foundation which has gifted children in the USA, Canada, Australia, Ireland and the United Kingdom more than 300 million books. This program takes place in person at the 67th Street Library is open to all ages. We will begin with a children’s story time, followed by a butterfly craft, and close out with a Parton Dance Party!
