About this event

NYPL After School is a free drop-in program for kids ages 6–12 that takes place after regular school hours on Mondays through Thursdays. Join our tutors and Teen Reading Ambassadors for homework help, reading recommendations, fun writing, STEAM, and enrichment activities—and even snacks! No need to register—just show up! Everything is free.

Best for caregivers and preschoolers, younger school-age, or children at this developmental stage who are ready for a program designed to build their listening stamina and foster creative literacy connections (typically ages 3-6 years old). Starting school marks a big transition for the whole family. Join our children's staff for this special story and craft program designed to connect young children and caregivers navigating school separation anxieties. We’ll read The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn then create our own special and unique clay sculptures. This program will take place indoors at the West New Brighton Library. Children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Parent participation is required. Due to time constraints, late arrivals may not be fully accommodated. Let your child explore, create, and grow — all on their own (with us, of course!). Nature School is a gentle, nature-based introduction to independence, designed especially for ages 2.5–5. Each 2-hour session blends guided group experiences with plenty of child-led outdoor play.
