Design your very own car to race! Whose will go the fastest? Whose will go the farthest? Take your car home with you after class! For children in grades K-5. Children attend independently. Explore, play, and grow together! Literacy Play Lab is a hands-on early learning program designed for young children and their caregivers. This event features engaging materials such as books, toys, sensory activities, puzzles, games, and other interactive learning tools that help build early literacy skills. Children will develop language, vocabulary, fine motor skills, creativity, and social-emotional skills while caregivers discover fun, simple ways to support early literacy development in their kiddos. Come play, explore, and build a love of reading! For children 18 months up to 5 years old with their caregiver. Registration is required and is separate for each class each week. Please register each child individually. Space is limited. Registration opens at 8:00 pm on Wednesday the week prior. Please only attend ONE class of each type each week since they are the same class offered multiple times. In order to provide the best learning environment for all participants, we are unable to allow access, regardless of registration, if you arrive 10 minutes after the program starts.

In the fall of 1778, Washington was occupied with ascertaining British intentions through his spy network in New York City. Join teacher & historian Jeffrey Denman for a book talk exploring Washington’s northern campaigns after 1778, which are often overlooked but demonstrate Washington’s great skill in strategy, logistics, and diplomacy. Discover the impact of the raids of New Haven, Fairfield, and Norwalk in 1779 and the final years of the Revolutionary War. Book sale & signing to follow. Members: $5; Non-Members: $10. About the Speaker Jeffrey A. Denman is a retired American history and geography teacher from Brookline Public Schools in Brookline, MA. He has written articles and books dealing with the American Revolution, the Civil War, World War II, and other topics in American history. His latest book is Closing the Ring: George Washington’s War in the North, 1778-1781. Denman is the father of nine children and twenty-two grandchildren as of this writing. An avid outdoorsman, he has climbed several 14,000-foot peaks in Colorado and Mt. St. Helens in Washington, and has enjoyed canoeing on the Upper Missouri River in the footsteps of Lewis and Clark.

Art 1 is the foundational class of a four-year curriculum, where your Art 1 student will embark on an exciting journey through monochromatic work that deepens their understanding of line, value, and texture. Projects will include ebony pencil portraits, charcoal still life, India ink design, and scratchboard art. Several weeks into the next session, students will study color theory in depth. They will apply this knowledge to create color design projects. Art 2 is the second class level of a four-year curriculum, where your Art 2 student will embark on a robust journey that builds upon skills learned in the Art 1 level. Students will be mastering new techniques while also using new mediums. Projects include figure drawing, watercolor landscapes, stippling, architectural designs, India ink washes, clay coil pots, and a pastel self portrait. Students will continue to improve their drawing skills, and their understanding of color theory and value.
