Calling all beginner readers! Register for a 15-minute time slot to read to Minnie the Basset Hound, a certified Bright & Beautiful therapy dog. Children who are able to read at least a little bit and would like to practice their reading skills are invited to sign up for a time slot with Minnie and her owner. Parents are welcome and encouraged to accompany their child during their time with the dog. Registration is required and can be done by contacting Miss Jane, Children's Librarian, at Jane.Tarantino@Rutherford.BCCLS.org. The library has implemented a 3-strikes attendance policy. Effective June 1, 2026, patrons who register for a program and fail to attend or cancel their reservation three times will be barred from signing up for the library's events for a period of six months. If you can no longer make it, please make sure to cancel your reservation and provide a seat to someone on the waiting list.

Join us for songs, simple stories, finger plays, and bouncing rhymes for babies who are not yet walking (birth-12 months) and their caregivers! Babies will sit on adult laps throughout the session. Online registration is required and opens the day before each session. Each child attending needs to be registered; adults do not. This movement class helps babies reach new developmental milestones in a community of first friends! It is designed for those who have graduated from Tummy Time (approximately 6-9 months) and those who have learned preliminary gross motor skills, such as rolling from back to belly, moving from sitting to crawling, pushing up to hands and knees, army crawling, etc. Not to worry, four-point crawling is not necessary. An excellent class for your baby, this program is an excellent way for parents and caregivers to meet and connect with other NYC families. Please note: This class is offered as a single session only, and each individual class must be booked before the start of the program.
