About this event

Have you ever thought of seals as scientists? In the frozen polar regions, we work with seals to learn about spaces people can't reach. Join Marisa Annunziato and Margie Turrin from the Marine Polar and Geophysics team at the Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory to learn about Antarctica, make your own seal 'sensor', and gather information about changes in this icy region. Ages 6-11. Please register your child and plan to stay with them at the event.

Join us for a creative adventure where literature, art, and science collide! Children will explore the fascinating world of diatoms - tiny aquatic organisms known as the “jewels of the sea.” Author Betsy Franco Feeney will read from her book, Jewels of the Sea: The Hunt for Floating Treasure, and give children an up-close look at real diatoms through a microscope. Inspired by these beautiful microscopic treasures, children will then create their own artwork. Betsy’s work is currently on exhibition at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory. She is known for introducing young audiences to science and environmental issues through humor, imagination, music, and visual storytelling. Ages 5-11. South Orangetown Central School District residents only. Please register your child and plan to stay with them throughout the event.
