About this event

Join New York Times bestselling author and illustrator Victoria Kann for a special celebration of her brand-new picture book, Snickerdoodle, and the 20th anniversary of Pinkalicious! Meet Snickerdoodle, an adorable new puppy who is trying very hard to fit in with his new family—and learning that sometimes the best way to belong is simply to be yourself. Victoria will read Snickerdoodle, answer questions, and play a fun game with the audience! Families can also enjoy crafts, activities, and a PINKAMAZING giveaway. Victoria will sign books as we celebrate 20 years of Pinkalicious and welcome her newest character, Snickerdoodle! Elm Street Books will be onsite selling books. Pre-order books here. We will distribute signing line wristbands to adults at event check-in the day of the event. Please register each person who will attend (adults as well as children).

Reading aloud to a specially trained, calm, and nonjudgmental dog creates a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere where children feel comfortable and uninhibited, leading to increased confidence and reduced stress. These positive effects support stronger reading development and communication abilities. Therapy Dog Brigade’s specially trained and certified therapy dogs, volunteering alongside their owner-handlers, visit schools, libraries, and other community settings to provide a safe and supportive space for young readers, inspiring them to enjoy reading and grow into lifelong learners.

China Discovery Series for Grades 2-4

New Canaan Library · New Canaan

Ready to embark on an exciting cultural journey and bring your imagination to life? Join us for China Discovery, an engaging, hands-on 4-week workshop series where children explore Chinese heritage through creative art, bringing iconic Chinese foods and culinary traditions to life! (Please note: This is a hands-on art and crafting workshop. No actual food will be served or consumed during class.) Designed for students in grades 2–4 (ages 7–9), each weekly session introduces a beloved traditional Chinese food or festive treat—from traditional mooncakes and hand-pulled noodles to lucky dumplings and candied fruit skewers. Through interactive storytelling and hands-on art activities using colorful, lightweight clay, paper, and other creative materials, participants will explore the cultural stories and traditions behind these foods while developing fine motor skills through molding, texturing, folding, shaping, and arranging. Children will create their own unique artistic interpretations of traditional Chinese foods to take home. All skill levels are welcome, and all materials will be provided. This class meets for four Saturdays (9/19, 9/26, 10/3, and 10/10) and is strictly capped at 12 students. Out of respect to the instructor and due to the limited number of seats, please commit to attending on all four dates. Lessons will build on one another. About the Instructor The program is designed and led by Yuting Song, Vice Principal and Instructor at Norwalk Chinese School and a Chinese language teacher at local private schools. With years of experience in Chinese language and cultural education, Yuting specializes in creating immersive, hands-on learning experiences for young students. By blending traditional craftsmanship with interactive storytelling and creative art, she is passionate about making global cultural heritage engaging, accessible, and fun for children.
