Ages 10+ Accord, NY Performance Workshop Trial Week This holiday season, our Accord dancers will adventure into one of the most colorful corners of The Nutcracker : the Land of the Sweets. Set to Tchaikovsky’s familiar score, dancers will build technique and performance skills as they explore the distinctive rhythms, characters, and movement of the dances Clara encounters on her journey. The workshop runs alongside our Nutcracker season in Brooklyn, giving interested dancers the opportunity to take part in both: building and performing a piece with us in Accord while also joining the larger Nutcracker production in Brooklyn. Ages 10+: The Land of the Sweets Reimagined Mondays 5:00 - 6:00pm Older dancers will begin with a warm-up blending ballet fundamentals with principles of modern dance before digging into the contrasting musical and movement qualities of Tchaikovsky’s Land of the Sweets. They’ll dabble in the character-dance influences of classical ballet through dances inspired by China, Spain, Arabia, and more, exploring the distinct rhythms and movement qualities that shaped the original variations. From there, dancers will learn set choreography while incorporating contemporary movement and creative exploration to reimagine this familiar suite. The result will be a fresh take on a classic that challenges dancers technically while giving them room to develop their own artistry.
