Urbane Arts Club · Ditmas Park

Adventure into Dance —exploring style and culture, refining movement fundamentals, experimenting with choreography, and designing sets and props for community performances throughout the year. Each unit opens a new chapter in dance— Hip-Hop, Ballet, Jazz, Musical Theater, Creative Dance, Contemporary, and World Dance —where students gain new skills, build greater confidence, and develop their creative voice. Our Dance Explorers program began at PS 889 and expanded to an off-site location at Urbane Arts Club, which allows us to open it up to kids from schools including PS 130 and PS 139. Pick-ups for these schools require a minimum of 3 registered students. Please reach out if you know there's sufficient interest. Tue Ballet II (ages 8.5+) - School Year 2026-2027

Brooklyn Studio · Prospect Park South

In Ballet II classes, students build on the foundation they established in Ballet I. Focus continues on building strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and body awareness, but now students begin to learn more intricate steps and gain greater knowledge of the epaulement and lines that define the art form. Students should have 1+ prior years of dance training, but placement is at the discretion of the studio and will be based on age and ability. Students taking Ballet II are required to take 2 dance classes per week in order to keep pace with the progress of the class and be ready to begin pointe work in Ballet III. Taking 2 ballet classes/week is strongly recommended, but Jazz and Contemporary Modern classes are eligible electives. Dress Code: Black leotard (no attached skirt), pink tights, pink ballet slippers, hair pulled back neatly in a ballet bun

Wed Ballet I (age 7.5+) - Fall 2026 Trial Semester

Brooklyn Studio · Prospect Park South

Ballet is graceful lines, thoughtful movement, and live piano accompaniment in classes. In classical ballet classes, students build on the foundation they've established in pre-ballet. They have better command of their turn-out, allowing their body to work comfortably and properly in 3rd, 4th, & 5th positions of the feet. This also enables them to develop greater flexibility and tackle more intricate steps like rond de jambe, country pas de basque, and pas de chat. They begin to incorporate epaulement, or the positioning of the upper body in addition to the positioning of the hips, legs, and feet, and gain a real understanding of the lines that define the art form. Ballet I--One 1hr technique class/wk required, two recommended. Dress Code: Black leotard (no attached skirt), pink tights, pink ballet slippers, hair pulled back neatly in a ballet bun
