About this event

Please register here for our one hour drop-off class. If you would like school pick up options or extended day, please register for our AFTER SCHOOL CLUB instead. Act, Move, Create, and Play… Where will your imagination take you today? In this class, children will open our magical treasure trunk and go on an improvised theatrical adventure. The props and costumes inside the trunk provide the spark that inspires a new story in each class that we will create together using our voices, bodies, and imaginations. The group will dive under the sea, fly through the sky like a superhero, or tip-toe into a secret castle…all while finding clues and working as an ensemble alongside our enthusiastic and experienced teaching artists. This class focuses on strengthening collaboration and communication skills, and offers an exciting and engaging setting for each unique child to express themselves fully and begin to empathize with and relate to others.

Practically Preschool - A Gentle Start to School for Pre-Preschoolers

South Slope Treasure Trunk Studio · South Slope

Our Treasure Trunk Practically Preschool program for 1.5-3 yrs old inspires curiosity, exploration, communication, imagination, and positive social and emotional interactions. At Treasure Trunk Theatre we believe in child-led, creative play based learning. Our program will introduce your child to a classroom setting with a gentle separation process for families and their kiddos. This session is for children born between April 1st, 2024 – April 1st, 2025. A mixed-age classroom for our early preschool-aged learners provides an array of benefits for both the younger and older students. The younger students build confidence and gain new and exciting language and behavioral skills. Our older students build a strong sense of responsibility and leadership skills in the classroom community. Each day, we will start the morning with open play in our beautiful space with toys and activities that support imaginative play as well as fine and gross motor skills. Children are also invited to work on an art project during this time. We then gather on the rug for circle time with morning hellos to encourage expression, a story and live music. We then wash hands and provide a simple snack for the children to share. Children then transition back to choice time where they will continue to have self-directed play in our space. A sensory table, play kitchen, library, and age appropriate toys will be available for their discovery. We end our morning with a closing circle time with music and goodbyes. For the first few weeks, grown-ups will join the class as needed until their child feels confident and comfortable being in the classroom without their presence. Our caring teachers offer encouragement and a nurturing environment where the children feel safe and secure within their classroom before the separation. Children at this age are exploding with power to communicate, to move purposefully, to assert their independence and individuality, and to control their important bodily functions. Our nurturing teachers are there to support them in their growth and development and will provide weekly updates for parents. A perfect way to prepare them for 3's programs next year! Come explore and play with our Practically Preschool at the Trunk! Register for the full school year and save! When you sign up for both our Fall/Winter and Winter/Spring semesters together, and before September 15th, you save $600! Discount is automatically applied at checkout.

KIDS BREAKING (Beginner)

Prospect Heights · Prospect Heights

This program is for students who are able to focus. It is not a play-based program. Please enroll in MiniMovers if your child is under 6 or is learning to sustain attention. Breaking Foundations (Absolute Beginner) Designed for kids with little to no breaking experience, this class introduces the fundamentals of breaking through a structured, drill-based training format. Unlike many recreational children's activities, breaking requires repetition, focus, and consistent practice to build technique. Students will learn foundational toprock, footwork, freezes, rhythm, coordination, and body control while developing confidence and creativity. Breaking is a disciplined art form rooted in respect for the culture, the instructor, fellow students, and the space. Students are expected to follow directions, participate respectfully, and remain engaged in class activities. Students who are unable to do so may be asked to sit out or leave class at the instructor's discretion. To support continued progress, all enrolled students receive access to online practice videos that reinforce the skills taught in class and encourage at-home training between sessions. No experience required.

HIPHOP (Beginner)

Prospect Heights · Prospect Heights

Hip-hop is more than choreography. It's a culture built on creativity, community, and self-expression. In this beginner class, students will learn foundational hip-hop movement through drills, freestyle exercises, musicality training, and age-appropriate combinations. Rather than preparing for recitals, students develop rhythm, confidence, discipline, and their own unique style. This is a serious dance class designed for students who are ready to focus, learn, and engage with the art form in a meaningful way.

Littles introduces movement foundations and freestyle through the culture of hip hop. Toddlers must be able to walk! Taught in a dance-party-style format, toddlers and caregivers jumping, bouncing, stomping, social dancing, imaginative movement, and our signature Toddler Cypher. Classes also include somatic movement, caregiver-assisted tricks, story time, and introductions to Brooklyn hip hop culture. At Rikud, we believe children learn to dance for life, not for recitals. Our goal is to help little ones become comfortable moving, grooving, and expressing themselves in community. Along the way, children build coordination, rhythm, confidence, body awareness, and social connection while developing a foundation for freestyle and a lifelong love of movement.
