About this event

Logicus Algebra I Honors builds upon the foundation of Pre-Algebra Honors to provide a deeper exploration of algebraic concepts and techniques, such as linear equations, ratios, quadratic equations, special factorizations, complex numbers, graphing linear and quadratic equations, linear and quadratic inequalities, functions, polynomials, exponents and logarithms, absolute value, sequences and series, and more! The Geometry topics covered are isosceles and equilateral triangles, right triangles, Pythagorean Theorem, circles, and quadrilaterals. This course also includes advanced topics such as those problem-solving strategies required for success in the AMC and AIME competitions. A brief treatment of college-level Linear Algebra. SHSAT Math Full-Year Preparation (Rising 7th Graders) This year-long course is designed to give rising 7th graders a strong head start in preparing for the math portion of the SHSAT (Specialized High School Admissions Test). The program builds a deep foundation in essential math topics while developing the critical thinking and problem-solving skills needed to succeed on this high-stakes exam. Through weekly, engaging instruction and progressive challenge, students will gain confidence with both the content and format of the SHSAT over time, allowing for thoughtful learning without the pressure of last-minute cramming. Core Topics Covered: 1. SHSAT Introduction & Strategy : Understanding the exam structure, scoring, question types, and time-management strategies. 2. Proportional Reasoning : Mastery of direct, inverse, and joint variation; solving multi-step word problems and interpreting graphs. 3. Number Theory : Prime factorization using factor trees, efficient methods for GCF and LCM, and a review of divisibility rules. 4. Advanced Arithmetic : Operations with exponents (including zero and negative powers), rules of signs, and multiplying/factoring monic quadratics using FOIL. 5. Combinatorics & Permutations : Distinguishing between arrangements and selections, with applications using Pascal’s Triangle and real-life scenarios. 6. Geometry Fundamentals : Area, perimeter, and volume; triangle properties including Pythagorean triples and special right triangles (30-60-90 and 45-45-90); and angle relationships formed by transversals and parallel lines.

At Logicus, our first-grade Conceptual Analytical Mathematics (CAM) curriculum exposes students to foundational mathematical concepts inspired by the best practices of Singapore and Russian Math curriculums: Specific Topics Covered: Introduction to Algebraic Equations: Students will be introduced to the concept of balance and equality, forming the foundation for equation solving and algebra. They will start by interpreting and creating number sentences using the equal sign correctly. For instance, understanding that in a correct equation, the amount on one side of the equal sign must be the same as the amount on the other side. Process Skills in Problem Solving : Students will develop competency in thinking skills and problem solving heuristics through meaningful and challenging activities such as Make a Systematic List, Visualization, Before-After Concept, Guess and Check, Replacement Concept, Look For A Pattern (Numbers and Shapes), Draw a Diagram.
