Get ready for a week of creativity, discovery, and artistic adventure! In our week-long Winter Break Camp, students will “travel” around the world without ever leaving the classroom, exploring the work of contemporary artists and discovering how culture, place, and personal experiences can inspire art. Each day, we’ll visit a new country and dive into the work of inspiring artists. Students will experiment with a variety of exciting art mediums—including clay, textiles, printmaking, painting, and more—to create their own unique artwork inspired by what they discover. Along the way, we’ll talk about how an artist’s culture and background can shape their creative voice and explore how our own stories, experiences, and cultural backgrounds can become part of the art we make. Pack your imagination and get ready for a creative trip around the globe—no passport required!

LIFE SKILLS THROUGH GAMEPLAY As featured in U.S. News and School Library Journal , our Social Skills program on Saturdays teaches children emotional regulation, cooperation, and executive functioning through immersive Dungeons & Dragons gameplay. We encourage children to reach goals while immersed in a fantastic experience. Kids work as a group on an imaginative and exciting quest. Collaboration and communication is facilitated and supported through all aspects of the program by our specially-trained counselors. Social Skills + D&D accepts participants on a rolling basis --you can join at any time during the school year! PROGRESS THROUGH PLAY When kids arrive, we assist with their transition into the gaming space. Empowered with information collected from intake questionnaires, our experienced instructors connect with each student to review the goals for the session. Once they’ve been acclimated and are ready to engage, BGL “Dungeon Masters” will lead each table’s session of Dungeons & Dragons. This highly imaginative, cooperative, and story-driven game gives children a vehicle to exercise their social skills as they work together to overcome challenges. This program is staffed exclusively with our most talented "Dungeon Masters" who approach every situation with compassion and patience, and has a student-to-staff ratio that ensures that your child receives full attention, reassurance, and feedback. We’re here to help your child navigate forging friendships, encountering hardships, and utilizing coping skills. During gameplay, our team will be on-hand for physical activity breaks, emotional support and to continually connect with your child on their goals. Each parent will receive regular updates via email detailing their individual child’s choices, struggles, and achievements. We’re always ready to have a discussion on ways to better support your child’s unique needs. Kids with no experience with D & D and those more experienced are welcome. PROGRAM FOCUS As they play, we help children through: Learning and utilizing conflict resolution strategies Identifying triggers leading to emotional dysregulation Utilizing coping strategies to improve emotional regulation Recognizing when an emotional response is an over/under reaction Gaining strategies to cope with changes and transitions Improving ability to follow multi-step directions Implementing executive functioning skills to complete tasks Improving turn taking and active listening skills Coping with delayed vs. immediate gratification Decreasing impulsivity and increasing attention span Nurturing independence SCHEDULE This weekly program meets every Saturday from 9:30am-11:30am at our Center Slope location (310 7th Ave @ 8th St).
