Modern & Contemporary I/II is highly recommended in addition to Ballet and Jazz. Modern and Contemporary dance build on the foundation of ballet technique, with an emphasis on quality of movement, acknowledgement of gravity, and seamless transitions of weight. The techniques of modern dance masters, such as Martha Graham, Lester Horton, José Limón, and Merce Cunningham, are introduced and progress in difficulty through the levels. Classes cover movement combinations in the center and across the floor. Students perform in the Student Showcase at the end of the spring semester.

Ballet II & Pre-Pointe requires an audition or placement class prior for enrollment. The class focuses on intermediate barre work, center exercises, and across the floor combinations. Students learn technique and placement, while emphasizing musicality. Combinations to strengthen the legs, feet, and ankles are introduced to prepare students for pointe work. Students perform in the Student Showcase at the end of the spring semester. We highly recommend students at this level take class twice a week for optimal growth.

Building upon the skills learned in our ballet classes, the class focuses on the specific strength and technique needed for boys to excel in ballet. Led by Brooklyn Ballet's esteemed male faculty, this is a class every male student should attend. Students will perform in the Student Showcase at the end of the spring semester.
