About this event

This Halloween, creep down to the library for some MONSTER-OUS science! Together, we’ll boil and bubble our way to creating some truly spooky monster parts. Costumes are welcomed, but it may get messy! Family Science Night is the place for kids and their families to work together –– learning about science through sometimes slimy, sometimes spooky, sometimes explosive, but always FUN activities, crafts, and experiments! Any ages are welcome, though the projects may be most delightful to younger children. In this no-commitment, weekly club, kids and teens in grades 2-12 can practice their building skills, show off their creativity, make friends, and learn new techniques. Each week, we’ll feature a creative challenge for builders to complete (or work on a personal project), and introduce advanced building techniques. We are not able to accommodate adult builders at this time; however, check out our Tall & Small Lego Day series for a chance for kids to build alongside their grownups! Builders have access to our wide collection of Lego system bricks; advanced builders can experiment with robotics using our Lego Mindstorms and WeDo kits, with instructor assistance if time permits. Do you have extra Lego gathering dust that you might want to see live a new life at the Library? We are always in need of extra bricks! Email us if you can help.

Babies and their caregivers will be introduced to stories, songs, and bounces in this storytime which highlights early literacy development for little ones. For ages 0-24 months. Due to the increasing popularity of this program, registration is now requested. Registration opens one week in advance. Please register each child individually.

Creative Games Meetup

In this no-commitment, weekly club, kids and teens can play their favorite creative games like Minecraft, Animal Crossing, The Sims, Stardew Valley, Scratch, Super Mario Maker, Terraria, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and more in a safe, supportive, and fun environment. Whether beginners looking to learn the basics, advanced players constructing their masterpieces, or tinkerers who want to toy with mods and hacks, all are welcome to come make friends and share their creations. This meetup is focused on noncompetitive games that allow players to show off their creativity, individuality, and teamwork. We ask that games not of this nature (for instance, Roblox or Fortnite) not be introduced in this setting. We have computers with Minecraft, The Sims 4, and Scratch, and one Nintendo Switch with Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, Let’s Build a Zoo, and Super Mario Maker available. We highly recommend console players, or players of other games, bring their own machines with them. This group is best for kids aged Kindergarten and up, as some reading ability is necessary to navigate the games. Subject to our Safe Child Policy, children under 12 years of age must have a caregiver present in the building. Registration is not required for this program.
