Perfect for first-time visitors, this introductory tour takes you on a leisurely walk to hear about the lives of pioneering figures such as physicians Abraham and Mary Putnam Jacobi; scientist Eunice Newton Foote, considered the first to discover greenhouse gases; and inventor and artist Samuel Morse, who revolutionized long-distance communication. The tour also highlights other influential individuals who contributed to the city’s cultural, scientific, and civic life. On this trolley tour, you’ll visit the monuments and gravesites of Henry Chadwick, the “Father of Baseball,” who invented the game’s scoring system; James Creighton, baseball’s first national star; Charles Ebbets, owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers; and many others who played a role in making baseball America’s national pastime. Following the tour, Death in the Strike Zone: The Mystery of America’s First Baseball Hero will be available for purchase and signing. Price: $30/$24 for members. , Mark your calendars for the last Saturday of every month! May through November, the Green-House is opening its classroom space for free, drop-in fun for visitors of all ages. Expect two themed hands-on activities that will help you explore the art, history, or nature of Green-Wood! Each gathering will offer something different, but whether you’re designing a monument, investigating a nature discovery table, or crafting a masterpiece, the goal remains the same: to spark curiosity and help families connect with each other and the Cemetery. Price: Free Register The Green-House (see details below) For this Last Saturdays’ art project, we will create paint pigment using flowers harvested from Jean Shin’s installation, Offering. These pigments will be used to create our own paintings inspired by the colors of the flowers in bloom. Participation is free, registration is recommended so we can get a rough headcount. Know Before You Go: Tickets: No registration required. Drop in and join us. Seating and activities are first come, first served. All ages, recommended for 5+ and caregivers. Explore Green-Wood’s Fungal Biodiversity: Cemetery Meadow

, Photo Credit: MYCOmmunity Mapping Project Come learn about fungi at Green-Wood! Join MYCOmmunity Mapping Project on a community science dig to learn about the fungal lives beneath our feet. We will take soil samples in one of Green-Wood’s meadows to test for fungal DNA and contribute to greater understanding of urban biodiversity. This session will start with a brief introduction to local soil and mycorrhizal fungi, why they matter, and why we want to get to know them. Price: Free Get Tickets Walking Tour (see details below) After a brief presentation, participants will dig in—literally—by taking soil samples together. After the dig, Green-Wood Environmental Research Fellows Whitney Bauck and Lauren Wilson will sequence the fungal DNA in the samples with lab partners. They will share these lab findings in a presentation open to the public at the end of their fellowship. No prior knowledge of soil science or fungi necessary. Just bring your curiosity and a willingness to get your hands dirty. What to expect: The programming and education will be geared primarily toward an adult audience, but kids are very welcome. Be prepared for at least 30 minutes of walking with some steep hills within the cemetery About the facilitators: Whitney Bauck and Lauren Wilson are Green-Wood Cemetery Environmental Research Fellows and founders of MYCOmmunity Mapping Project, who started out as friends, neighbors, and dirt and fungi lovers living in Brooklyn. Free. Registration required. Please consider a $10 donation to the Green-Wood Historic Fund so that we can continue to offer more programs like this throughout the year. KoKo Lot at 440 19th St. (Between 8th Ave & Prospect Park West) · Greenwood Heights

In this Fort Building workshop, kids will learn about differnt types of shelters and build structures fit for humans, pets, and other creatures (big or small, real or imaginative). Inspired by the natural environment of the KoKo Lot, kids will explore and use critical thinking skills to create their structures. Found objects and other reclaimed materials will be used to build their forts. Pick-up is available from PS 130 Lower, PS 130 Upper, and PS 10. Pick-up is an optional add-on that applies to the full semester. The cost for pick-up is $136 ($17/session). Kids are picked up by a KoKo Teaching Artist at school dismissal time and escorted to the Lot. Kids have snack and playtime until the workshop begins at 3:30PM. Please note: After School Pick up will not be offered on November 3rd (Election Day, remote learning day for NYC Public Schools).
