In Person. Join us for this enriching program where cooking, culture, and compassionate action come together to celebrate Jewish heritage and community! This session of Havurah at the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan intertwines the joy of cooking traditional Jewish foods with meaningful community service. Our theme focuses on how food can be a bridge to cultural understanding and social responsibility. Children will explore Jewish culture through interactive cooking sessions, learning about, preparing, and tasting a variety of traditional Jewish dishes from around the world. As they hone their culinary skills, they will also engage in storytelling, discussing the significance of each dish within Jewish celebrations and heritage. Throughout this process, the children will collaboratively author a cookbook filled with their favorite recipes and personal anecdotes, which they will share with family and friends.
In alignment with the value of Tikkun Olam, repairing the world, the cooking experience will culminate in a community service project. Guided by instructors, the children will select a social cause that resonates with them, whether it be food insecurity, environmental sustainability, or supporting local families in need. They will also work together to organize a potluck event, inviting family, friends, and community members to contribute dishes, share stories, and connect over food.
