SHSAT Ascent Course (spring/fall) (for second semester 7th graders) Bee Tutored's Ascent Course is ideal for the second semester 7th grader and rising 8th grader. Ascent is a “practice forward” course that places emphasis on iterative practice and vetted strategy as a means of achieving optimal SHSAT success. Course curriculum includes a unique combination of test-taking strategies such as time management, elimination techniques/answer traps, targeted practice with new exam-related topics, steps to breaking down challenging problems and techniques to reduce test anxiety. Embedded in this course is personalized, differentiated strategy building that optimizes performance for every Bee Tutored student. The course includes: 13, 1.5 hour classes, 1 diagnostic, 2 mock exams+analysis, and comprehensive lessons + guided practice provided by Bee Tutored’s experienced SHSAT instructors. In Person SAT Prep Class This in person SAT course includes 8 classes that are each 2hrs in length and 2 practice tests via the College Board Bluebook App. The course is designed to cover the 4 sections of the exam: Reading, Writing & Language, Math (No Calculator and Calculator) and the optional Essay. Each class will include a lesson and independent practice to finish problem sets. Scores will be tracked in order to improve performance. The course focuses on test taking skills, time management, strategic thinking/planning and detailed lessons on SAT topics. The strategies covered range from broad strokes, such as prioritizing passages for the Reading section or taking advantage of the easy-to-hard organization of the Math questions, to nuanced tips for specific question types. Not only will this course show students the right way to answer questions, it will also demonstrate the fastest most efficient way. Topics include: Math: Algebraic linear equations, systems of equations, rates, ratios, proportions, percentages, statistics, probability, functions, quadratics, exponents, radicals, polynomials and Geometry Writing & Language: passage organization, conventions of punctuation, sentence structure, transitions - Reading: command of evidence, textual support, vocab-in-context, detail, inference, author's purpose, point of view, rhetoric and literary devices Essay: how to plan, write, and revise a top-scoring essay.
