LIFE SKILLS THROUGH GAMEPLAY As featured in U.S. News and School Library Journal , our Social Skills program on Saturdays teaches children emotional regulation, cooperation, and executive functioning through immersive Dungeons & Dragons gameplay. We encourage children to reach goals while immersed in a fantastic experience. Kids work as a group on an imaginative and exciting quest. Collaboration and communication is facilitated and supported through all aspects of the program by our specially-trained counselors. Social Skills + D&D accepts participants on a rolling basis --you can join at any time during the school year! PROGRESS THROUGH PLAY When kids arrive, we assist with their transition into the gaming space. Empowered with information collected from intake questionnaires, our experienced instructors connect with each student to review the goals for the session. Once they’ve been acclimated and are ready to engage, BGL “Dungeon Masters” will lead each table’s session of Dungeons & Dragons. This highly imaginative, cooperative, and story-driven game gives children a vehicle to exercise their social skills as they work together to overcome challenges. This program is staffed exclusively with senior-level team members with relevant experience and training, and has a student-to-staff ratio that’s nearly two-to-one. We’re all about personal attention on Saturdays! During gameplay, our team will be on-hand for physical activity breaks, emotional support and to continually connect with your child on their goals. Each parent will receive regular updates via email detailing their individual child’s choices, struggles, and achievements. We’re always ready to have a discussion on ways to better support your child’s unique needs. Kids with no experience with D & D and those more experienced are welcome. PROGRAM FOCUS As they play, we help children through: Learning and utilizing conflict resolution strategies Identifying triggers leading to emotional dysregulation Utilizing coping strategies to improve emotional regulation Recognizing when an emotional response is an over/under reaction Gaining strategies to cope with changes and transitions Improving ability to follow multi-step directions Implementing executive functioning skills to complete tasks Improving turn taking and active listening skills Coping with delayed vs. immediate gratification Decreasing impulsivity and increasing attention span Nurturing independence SCHEDULE This weekly program meets every Saturday from 12:00pm-2:00pm at our Center Slope location (310 7th Ave @ 8th St). PAYMENTS This program is paid by recurring monthly payment. After your first payment (collected upon registration), payments are charged at the beginning of each subsequent month. If you register after the beginning of the month, your first payment will be prorated accordingly. DURATION Participants enjoy and pay for 8 months of programming (September - May). MAKEUPS For families that miss a class or two, we’re holding sessions in June for make-ups (at no additional cost).
