PS11 Red Legion: 1st & 2nd Grade Tryout (Round 2) Thank you, PS11 families! We expected about 20 players at Monday's tryout, and 47 showed up. Because of that demand, we're holding a second tryout for 1st and 2nd graders. This time, please register ahead so we can plan for every child. Tryout Details: ⏰ 7:15 AM 📍 PS11 Turf field What is PS11 Red Legion? After a successful pilot last year, Soccer Legion FC is expanding at PS11, with a team for each grade, led by our professional coaches. Soccer Legion is a youth soccer club that has been developing players in Brooklyn for a decade. We're proud to partner with PS11 to build a soccer culture at the school, with the long-term goal of a PS11 soccer team. How it works Tryout only: players are selected through tryouts, and participation is by invitation. School year program: our coaches come to PS11 on weekdays and bring the training to your child at school. Fall and spring: the focus is on training. Winter: three single-day indoor tournaments (December, January, and February/early March), where players compete alongside their classmates and friends. We may add one more. Exact dates will be shared by November 1. Weekends: mostly free for families and other activities. There may be occasional optional events, such as NYCFC or New York Red Bulls games. Your coach The program is led by Coach Stephan, who holds a US Soccer D License and the United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Diploma. He has been coaching for over five years and is a certified FIFA and US Soccer referee. All of our coaches are licensed by US Soccer. What's next Once selections are made, we'll invite accepted families to a Zoom or in-person meeting before the end of October to go over objectives, set expectations and details for the 2026/2027 season. PLEASE NOTE: To be eligible to participate in this program, players (girls only) must be born between Aug 1, 2019 - Jul 31, 2021 and have some soccer experience in addition to an interest in playing travel soccer within 1-2yrs. This program is ideal for girls who are ready for more structure and challenge. Practices focus on technical skill development and a deeper understanding of the game in a fun, supportive environment. Players are grouped by age and ability, and sessions are led by our USSF & USC licensed professional coaches. The pre-travel program's purpose is to give interested children access to professional training curriculum and to prepare them for the travel soccer competition. Over the past years Soccer Legion FC has offered all girls and boys the ability to try out for the Accelerated Soccer Program. The program has been an enormous success. What's Included In The Registration Fee: Weekly training session led by professional coaches 4-5 weekend games A Soccer Legion FC training t-shirt Commitment: Attendance at training sessions is crucial. We staff our best coaches with the younger ages because we believe the beginning is the most important part of any work. And because we believe the game to be the best teacher, we strongly recommend children to play as many games as possible. Selection of travel teams at the end of the year, will be partially based on commitment demonstrated throughout the year and improvements made. Players born in 2020 will get first look. Camps are also a great way for players to develop while having fun. Pre-travel and travel soccer are not appropriate for all players. This program is ideal for kids who are ready for more structure and challenge. Practices focus on technical skill development and a deeper understanding of the game in a fun, supportive environment. We're thrilled to launch our very own in-house game series: Our Legion Little League — a small-sided internal league for our Pre-Travel players! Instead of traveling to other clubs, your child will play 5v5 games (including goal keeper) against fellow pre-travel participants. It’s all the fun and excitement of league play without the long commutes — more touches, more goals, more fun! Games will be held on Saturday mornings from 8:30-10:00am at McLaughlin Playground under the supervision of our coaching staff. Teams rotate matchups to maximize development and excitement throughout the season. We will do everything in our power to keep girls and boys seperated. However, if numbers are low on a particualar weekend, we will mix boys and girls as long as it is developmentally appropriate to do so. Our coaches will use their best judgement to evaluate. Girls and boys born in 2020 and 2021 are recommended to start with our Pre-Travel program.
