Gather a team and test your knowledge of the American Revolution. Historical interpreter and local resident Matthew Weigman will serve as our emcee. The trivia will be five rounds of multiple choice - five opportunities to win a prize! His 32-year career in communications at the auction house Sotheby's concluded with nine years as Worldwide Director of Sales Communications, based in London. As a historical interpreter at Washington's Headquarters Newburgh for the past four and a half years, Matthew has enjoyed illuminating visitors and audiences about the significant achievements of the "indispensable man" of the American Revolution during its final sixteen months, as well as lecturing about the era of the Revolution itself. Matthew volunteers as a Master Gardener with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County; acts as Honorary President of the Philipstown Garden Club; and writes regularly for the Garden Club of America magazine bulletin. He also lectures in historical horticulture.

The Butterfield Library will participate in the Ozone Garden Network, a nation-wide project to collect data on the impact of ozone in our environment. With a grant funded by (NASA Team II) we planted both sensitive and tolerant plants to study their responses to ozone. Ozone bioindicator gardens are designed to show how pollution damages plants. We will monitor our Learning Garden until early fall, to see how our plants have been affected using visual comparison. Come and be a citizen scientist! Questions? General Benedict Arnold is infamous for his thwarted plan to surrender American-controlled West Point to the British during the Revolutionary War. Join PHM for a history hike of Arnold’s escape path through present day Garrison, NY. Along the way we’ll discuss why the General was driven to betray the Revolution and how prominent local loyalist Beverley Robinson aided Arnold’s mission. This history hike includes scenic views of the Hudson River and West Point and will last approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. The trail is one mile in length but includes uneven rocky terrain and several steep hills. Appropriate footwear and active/outdoor attire strongly suggested. Starting Location: Marsha's Mile / Glenclyffe Trailhead Parking Lot, 8 Glenclyffe, Philipstown, NY 10524. The parking lot is on the right hand side immediately after turning from 9D onto Glenclyffe. Hike Difficulty: Moderate. Path includes several steep hills and sections of rocky, uneven terrain.
