National Chess Master Ian Harris will be at the Byram library to instruct and inform patrons about the game of chess. All levels and ages are welcome. For all ages - Birth to 5-year-olds with a parent/ caregiver. Play is an important part of early literacy. Play helps children to express themselves and put thoughts into words and so much more. Join us for this weekly exploration in PLAY with other members of the community and help your little one build literacy through PLAY! Please check in at the Main Children's Desk on the third floor for your ticket. Tickets will be given out starting at 9:30 a.m. Space is limited. Please arrive on time at the start of the program. To minimize disruption to the presenter and audience, there will be no admittance allowed 10 minutes after the program has begun. Children ages 4 and 5 will explore imaginative play, singing, acting and movement to experience the magic and make-believe of the theatre as an active player rather than a passive observer. Though disguised as play, these drama activities, promote cognitive, emotional, physical and social development skills. But most importantly, they are just plain fun! For programs that are 30 minutes on length, a 10 minute grace period will be given, and for programs that are 45-60 minutes in the length, a 15 minute grace period will be given. To not disturb the program, there is no admittance after the grace period.

Each class springs from a beloved picture book and grows into a full dramatic experience. Students don't just hear the story — they inhabit it. Every class is enacted by participants using costume pieces and props, with activities that build through movement, song, and imagination. No performance experience needed. Every child is a storyteller.
