About this event
All monthlong in November, Swimmer Eco Studio will be displaying a collection of mixed media artwork centered on environmental conservation, local ecosystems, and sustainability — presented alongside new work by his art teacher, Yun Mi Kyoung. Come check it out! Swimmer Eco Studio is the creative work of a young local student artist, age 8, whose art centers on ocean life, local ecosystems, and environmental stewardship — encouraging visitors of all ages to think about trash cleanup, recycling, and protecting the natural world around them. This collection, titled Ecosystems & Renewal, features 5 to 10 original pieces exploring environmental stewardship, trash cleanup, recycling, and the protection of local natural habitats. The exhibit combines vibrant watercolor paintings with 3D sculptural pieces built directly from repurposed and recycled materials. Each piece is display-ready and accompanied by an official "About the Artist" statement and individual artwork labels explaining the story and materials behind the work — making it an engaging, hands-on learning opportunity for visitors of all ages, especially young children discovering recycling and Earth stewardship for the first time. This exhibit also features new work by Yun Mi Kyoung, a contemporary mixed-media artist based in New Jersey and Swimmer Eco Studio's art teacher. Her practice explores life, time, memory, and the relationship between people and the natural world, often incorporating discarded CDs and other repurposed materials into vibrant, layered abstract paintings. Yun moved to the United States in 1992 and began her artistic career in earnest in 2000, after training in Western painting at Chugye University for the Arts in Seoul. Years of teaching art to children — including decades with the Bul Kwang Korean Culture School — deepened her focus on recycled materials, which she uses not simply to make an environmental statement, but to reveal new beauty in what has been discarded. Her work has been shown widely in the New York/New Jersey area and in Korea, including recent exhibitions at the Salmagundi Club (NY), Mana Contemporary (Jersey City), and the Gahoe Folk Painting Museum (Seoul). Her recognitions include the U.S. President's Volunteer Service Award and a New Jersey State Senate Award for Best Teacher, and she has served as President of the Korean-New York Artist Association.
