Intro to Robotics is an 12-weeks introductory course designed to make learning fun for kids! This course focuses on robotics, engineering, coding, physics, and math. Throughout this course, children will use LEGO pieces to construct their own robots and learn to control them using simple computer programs. Our teaching philosophy emphasizes hands-on learning experiences. Kids will actively engage in building and programming their robots, gaining practical insights into how math and science concepts apply in real life. Following the STEAM approach, our classes integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math to foster problem-solving abilities and encourage creativity. Kids will discover the interconnectedness of these subjects and their applications in solving real-world challenges. Through the process of building and coding robots, children will develop essential problem-solving skills and nurture their creativity. They will also gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for subjects such as math, science, and physics. The Intro to Robotics course serves as an excellent introduction to the exciting world of robotics and STEM for your child. Designed for elementary school students, this hands-on STEM class encourages creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork through engaging engineering challenges. Using the VEX GO Robotics System, students build and program a variety of robots while exploring real-world engineering concepts. Through fun, project-based activities, they learn how simple machines work, develop mechanical building skills, and discover how sensors, motors, and mechanisms work together to solve problems. Students bring their creations to life using VEXcode , a beginner-friendly block-based programming platform that introduces coding concepts in an engaging and accessible way. As they design, test, and improve their robots, they also learn the Engineering Design Process, computational thinking, and problem-solving strategies used by real engineers. Each lesson presents a new challenge that encourages students to collaborate, think creatively, and apply STEM concepts in a fun and supportive learning environment. Students work together to design, build, program, and optimize a competition robot while learning advanced engineering concepts, coding techniques, strategic thinking, and effective team collaboration. Team members are expected to take an active role in the engineering design process, testing, troubleshooting, and preparing for tournament competition. Competitive Team students will: Design, build, and program a VEX IQ competition robot Develop advanced skills in robotics engineering, coding, and problem-solving Learn game strategy, robot optimization, and competition preparation Collaborate with teammates to solve complex engineering challenges Maintain engineering documentation and participate in team planning Compete in 4–6 local VEX IQ tournaments throughout the season Pursue qualification for and compete at the New Jersey State Robotics Championship This program is ideal for students who are committed to developing their robotics skills at a competitive level and are ready to take on greater responsibility within a team environment.
