Sing Me a Story with Fairfield Public Library

Join us every Tuesday between September 8 and October 27 on the Museum Commons to enjoy a fun way to develop early literacy skills in young children with dancing, singing, and stories that incorporate music. For children ages 0-5 and their adult caregiver. Free admission. Registration is NOT required. It is recommended that you arrive early for limited parking and bring a blanket to sit on. 10/28/26 Lantern Tour: Fairfield’s Old Burying Ground

Walk among the gravestones in the town’s oldest cemetery to discover the stories of Revolutionary War spy Caleb Brewster, naval hero Samuel Smedley, and patriot Eunice Dennie Burr. Uncover some of the burial practices in early New England while listening to long-buried legends that have haunted Fairfield for nearly 400 years. Registration is required. Members: $15; Non-Members: $20. Tour Dates: Wednesday, October 28; Thursday, October 29; Friday, October 30 at 5:30 pm on each night Tour Location: Meet at Fairfield Museum Main Entrance. Program Details Pre-registration is required—no drop-ins will be allowed. Tours are approximately 60 minutes long and will depart on their ghostly journey promptly at 5:30 PM. Tours will meet at the front entrance of the Fairfield Museum. Feel free to bring your own flashlights. Personal photography is permitted at Museum programs. Continuous audio or video recording of our programs is not permitted. This program is recommended for adults and kids ages 12 and up. Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. We will be standing and walking for extended periods. The Old Burying Ground can be difficult for people with limited mobility. Please contact the Fairfield Museum to discuss any accessibility concerns. In case of inclement weather, the Fairfield Museum will make every effort to reschedule the tour. Please check the Fairfield Museum website (www.fairfieldhistory.org) for weather-related updates. No refunds will be given unless the program is cancelled by the Fairfield Museum.

Honoring successful harvests stretches back to the longstanding traditions of Indigenous communities celebrating seasonal foods. In 1621, English colonists in Plymouth, MA celebrated their first harvest alongside the Wampanoag people who had taught them to grow corn and squash. The Thanksgiving we know today took shape when Abraham Lincoln declared the last Thursday of November as a national holiday starting in 1863. Join the Fairfield Museum’s Curator Chelsea Garth to explore the long history of Thanksgiving’s origins and its evolution, as well as how it is remembered today. $5 suggested donation
