Happy Library Card Sign-Up Month! Library Card Sign-Up Month is a national campaign to emphasize the importance of library cards to a child’s education and to combat illiteracy. The campaign first started in 1987 as a response to then Secretary of Education, William Bennett, who stated: “Let’s have a campaign … Every child should obtain a library card and use it.” In celebration of the wonders of a library card, we will be making our own library card holders! If your child doesn't have a library card, you will be able to make them one during the program! You can make a library card before the program by visiting the circulation desk. Are you eligible for a card? Library cards are given to anyone who: Lives in the town of Yorktown Lives in the Lakeland School District Lives in the Town of Cortlandt but NOT in the Hendrick Hudson School District Lives outside of Westchester County and works or attends school in the areas listed above Proof of residency/employment/school attendance is required for a card.
