Olympic Summer Games | Snapology Camp

Mon, Aug 31 ยท 8:30 AM

S.T.E.A.M Lab ยท LIC

VIEW EXPERIENCE TRAILER HERE In Snapology's Summer Games program, students will learn about the history of the Olympic Games and specific Olympic sports. They will use these sports as the backdrop for their building, creativity, & teamwork. Students will learn and use engineering concepts to help them build creations out of LEGOยฎ bricks. The worldโ€™s favorite summer games will be their muse! Through collaboration and friendly competition with their classmates, students will also learn what it means to be a good-sport. WHAT THE STUDENTS WILL LEARN Creativity & Critical Thinking: In this program, creativity is at the front and center of everything we do. Each activity encourages students to embrace their imagination and create sport-inspired items with a unique, personalized twist. By using visual aids, holding creative classroom brainstorming sessions, and giving basic building parameters, students will be supported as they take creative risks and are guided when they arenโ€™t sure what to build next. Problem Solving and Experimentation: Students will use their various LEGOยฎ models to complete a series of building and engineering challenges. Through observation and predictions, students will test how manipulating their models can result in an unexpected outcome! They will then use this knowledge to design and build their own contraptions inspired by our favorite summer games! Engineering Concepts: With the guidance of a Snapology Instructor, your students will build models that utilize gears, wheels, axles, and more. These models will become a hands-on tool to learn about the sport being discussed as well as physics concepts such as pulleys, gears, levers, and more! Teamwork & Collaboration Skills: Even the best engineers need to work with others to do their best! At Snapology, we emphasize that thereโ€™s power in teamwork and constantly work to develop healthy, respectful collaborations between students. Through group planning, building, and modification, your student will become more cognizant of how to interact with their peers in a respectful and productive way. Additional Details: Camp & Creative Play will occur from 9 AM-3:30 PM and drop off begins each day at 8:30am. For maximum efficiency, we ask you to be punctual at arrival and dismissal times. Campers are required to bring in their own lunch, 1 snack, and a drink every day. Please pack lunches in paper bags or lunch coolers and put the childโ€™s name on each bag. Snapology Day Camp is a โ€œnut sensitiveโ€ environment. As we have several students with food allergies, no peanut or tree nut products are permitted.

Ages 5+ | 13 Weeks of Roaring, Soaring, Slithering Robots โ€” and Kids Pick Whatโ€™s Next! What if your kid could engineer a robot that walks like a crocodile, flutters like a hummingbird, or roars like a lion โ€” and then code it to do it on cue? In this 13-week LEGOยฎ WeDo 2.0 Robotics class, your young engineer steps into the wild world of robotics one motor at a time. We kick off with 3 weeks of Animal Robotics โ€” the perfect runway for learning block-based coding, motors, sensors, and the magic of making a robot move with purpose. By the end of Week 3, your coder is comfortable with the WeDo 2.0 platform and ready for bigger missions. From Week 4 onward, the students take the wheel โ€” voting each week on the robotics theme they want to tackle next! KIDS PICK THE ADVENTURE! Starting Week 4, students vote at the end of every class on the next robotics theme. Every student has a voice, every week is a fresh surprise, and no two semesters look the same. Theme options may include: Robot Pets, Outer Space Bots, Robot Olympics, Underwater Robots, Music & Dance Bots, Construction Crew Bots, Ninja Robotics, Superhero Tech, Pokรฉmon Engineering, Sports Bots, and many more! WHAT STUDENTS WILL LEARN Programming Skills (Block-Based Coding) Using the WeDo 2.0 drag-and-drop coding app, students learn loops, sequences, sensor input, and how to debug a program that isnโ€™t doing what they want. Mechanical Components From motors to motion sensors to tilt sensors, students identify and use the key parts in every build โ€” and learn how each piece shapes what their robot can do. Creative Problem Solving When a build doesnโ€™t work the first time, students iterate, troubleshoot, and improve โ€” discovering that โ€˜failing forwardโ€™ is exactly how real engineers work. Teamwork & Communication Small groups and peer partners are at the heart of every Snapology class. Kids plan together, share materials, and grow into respectful, productive collaborators.
