A Tree With Arms (Casts A and B)
About this event
The Summer of 1973. Americans faced chaos and triumphs as the Watergate Scandal overwhelmed all conversations of the summer. The World Trade Center, an iconic symbol of human imagination and will, opened its doors to the public. “Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree” played over and over on the radio. Kids enjoyed a simple livelihood. A time where Streetlamps dictated curfews and nights were filled with the low hum of black and white TVs. Skinned knees, bare feet, and ice cream cones dripped through the dog days of summer. In Skaneateles, New York, two rival friend groups built their summer homes in the maple trees. Two tree houses filled to the brim with imagination. The Summer aura was filled with catching lightning bugs, playing board games, and listening to 45 records. As the world erupts in war, humanities' youngest members must find a way to rise above differences and find the common ground. Role placement is held on the first day of the workshop through an audition process. Every child receives a role and is involved; there are lead characters, supporting, and ensemble. Class time is rehearsal time - students are expected to practice and memorize lines throughout the week so that they come prepared to rehearse during class.
