Age group: 6-8 years old. Children must be 6 years old by September to enroll. Jazz & Tap Level I is a dynamic and structured program designed for young dancers who are ready to build a solid technical foundation while discovering the excitement and versatility of jazz and tap dance. Through engaging, age-appropriate instruction, students develop coordination, rhythm, musicality, confidence, and performance skills in a focused and encouraging classroom environment. The curriculum introduces the fundamental vocabulary and technique of both jazz and tap. In jazz, students explore proper body alignment, flexibility, strength, locomotor movements, turns, jumps, and expressive performance. In tap, dancers develop rhythmic precision, timing, coordination, weight transfer, and clear articulation of basic tap steps while learning to “play” the music with their feet. Each class follows a progressive structure that combines technical exercises, across-the-floor progressions, rhythm studies, choreography, and creative movement. Students strengthen their listening skills, spatial awareness, memory, and classroom discipline while learning the importance of teamwork, perseverance, and respect for both their teachers and fellow dancers. Instruction emphasizes quality of movement, musical interpretation, and proper technique, helping students develop confidence while encouraging individual artistry and a genuine enjoyment of dance. Students participate in two annual stage performances , providing valuable opportunities to build stage presence, apply classroom training, and experience the excitement of performing before an audience in a professional theater setting. Jazz & Tap Level I is an excellent next step for children who are ready for a structured dance education, offering a balanced approach that combines technical excellence, creativity, and the joy of movement in a positive, school-oriented environment.
