Design Play Saturdays

Boerum Hill Studio · Boerum Hill

Design Play Saturdays gives kids a screen-free morning to think, make, and play like designers. Each week we introduce a new theme with a hands-on project drawn from architecture, graphic design, industrial design, or interior design. One Saturday we might sketch and build a model of a wilderness cabin; the next, we'll explore color and collage in a hand-bound book. We always lead with ideas: asking questions, sketching, and making prototypes. And we never forget that play and joy are important parts of the creative process. Our studio is a collaborative, encouraging space where kids cheer each other on, share ideas, and leave proud of what they've made. THE FALL SCHEDULE 10/17: Collage book with interactive elements 10/24: Haunted house architecture 10/31: Mask design 11/07: Chair & furniture design 11/14: Paper light dome / igloo model 11/21: Card making block printing 11/28: Pattern making (for textiles or wrapping paper) 12/05: Pop up card design 12/12: Geometric winter ornaments (3D forms) 12/19: Character-driven saddle stitch books

Parent-And-Me Sundays

Boerum Hill Studio · Boerum Hill

Parent-and-Me Design Sundays is a chance to share a creative morning of designing and making side by side. Each week we introduce a new design concept with a hands-on project drawn from architecture, graphic design, industrial design, or interior design. One Sunday you might make an architectural model of a modern cabin; the next, you might design your own block-printing patterns. Grown-ups can stay and create alongside their kids, or drop off and let us take it from there. Parents who stay can work as a team on a shared design or each make their own. We always lead with ideas: visualizing the possibilities, sketching, and then getting to make. And we never forget that play and joy are an important part of the creative process. Our studio is a bright, welcoming space full of creative energy, where everyone can try new things and leave proud of what they've made. FALL SCHEDULE 10/18 - Accordion book collage 10/25 - Architectural house model 11/01 - Color study mobiles 11/08 - Chair design 11/15 - Paper light dome / igloo model 11/22 - Card making block printing 11/29 - Pattern making for wrapping paper or textiles 12/06 - Collage and pop up cards 12/13 - Geometric winter ornaments (3D paper)
