About this event

Get your hands covered in clay! This class is for all ages. This is a process-oriented class where participants can learn the basics of wheel throwing OR hand-building . These classes are taught by some of our awesome working members . No glazing takes place in this class. Your piece will be fired and glazed by our team, and you will be notified when your finished piece is ready for pick up! DISCLAIMER: We do not accept parties for this class. You are able to sign up with a group, but we cannot make extra accomodations or change the structure of the class. If you'd like to book a Kids Clay Party please inquire at https://www.artshackbrooklyn.org/studio/clay-parties. At Artshack, we believe art is an important tool for self-expression, problem-solving, and growth. This season, young artists will explore the world of clay, learning hand-building, the pottery wheel, and various tools. Alongside their clay work, they’ll engage in drawing, drafting, and sketching: essential practices that help children develop their ideas, refine compositions, and expand their creative thinking. Our teaching artists will guide students through a wide range of mixed-media techniques, including printmaking, felting, and sculpture. Each project encourages process-based art-making, where children experiment, make discoveries, and build confidence in their creative abilities. At Artshack, we provide a safe space for children to take creative risks, collaborate with peers, and develop their unique artistic voice, all while deepening their understanding of art as both a practice and a form of personal expression. 𓏊𓏋𓎟𓎺 FALL SEMESTER 𓏊𓏋𓎟𓎺 We follow the public school calendar. When schools are closed, there is no afterschool program. However, we offer day camps from 9 AM - 3 PM on school holidays. Enrollment Options Clay & Más Matinee is a bilingual, Spanish-immersion afterschool program rooted in curiosity, discovery, and process-based learning. Class meets from 2:00–4:00 PM , students participate in a clay class inspired by Latin American cultures, mythologies, and legends, exploring storytelling, material, and technique while building Spanish vocabulary naturally through making. Children work with hand-building, the pottery wheel, slab roller, and extruder , while experimenting with colorful slips, glazes, and underglazes. Instruction is offered in Spanish and English , using movement, images, and demonstration, so language is learned through doing rather than translating. Clay y Más supports creative thinking, bilingualism, and cultural awareness in a playful, welcoming studio environment where art, language, and imagination grow together. Clay & Más Matinee es una clase de cerámica bilingüe en un entorno en el que el español será la lengua vehicular para explicar los procesos creativos. La clase priorizará el hacer mediante prácticas iterativas arraigadas en la curiosidad y el descubrimiento. Durante este semestre nos enfocaremos en proyectos de barro inspirados en culturas, mitologías y leyendas latinoamericanas. Lxs estudiantes trabajarán en el torno y modelando a mano, utilizando diversas técnicas enseñadas durante el curso. También experimentarán con engobes y esmaltes para el acabado de sus piezas. La instrucción se ofrecerá tanto en español como en inglés, utilizando el movimiento, imágenes y demostraciones, por lo que el idioma se aprenderá haciendo y no traduciendo. Clay & Más fomenta el pensamiento creativo, el bilingüismo y la conciencia cultural, en un ambiente lúdico y acogedor. Welcome to The Rookie Class at The Inner Athlete! This sport-focused class offers an immersive 45-minute or 60-minute experience, tailored for children aged 2.5 to 3.5 years. While parent or caregiver participation is optional, we encourage their involvement based on each child's needs. Please note that this class is not a drop-off program. The Rookie Class is designed to foster essential skills such as coordination, strength, balance, and locomotor abilities. Throughout the sessions, children will have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of various sports. Our engaging group setting creates a supportive environment for kids to practice sharing, following directions, and socializing with their peers. In addition to structured activities, the one-hour class incorporates open play sports time. This allows the young athletes to explore and enjoy different sports in a fun and uninhibited manner. Our curriculum follows a consistent, exciting routine. Alongside sports instruction, we incorporate music, parachute time, and a range of gross- and fine-motor activities that align with the sport introduced each week. From hockey and basketball to tennis, bowling, volleyball, soccer, track and field, baseball, and more, we offer a diverse selection of age-appropriate, captivating sports for The Rookies.
