About this event

This program is for students who are able to focus. It is not a play-based program. Please enroll in MiniMovers if your child is under 6 or is learning to sustain attention. Breaking Foundations (Absolute Beginner) Designed for kids with little to no breaking experience, this class introduces the fundamentals of breaking through a structured, drill-based training format. Unlike many recreational children's activities, breaking requires repetition, focus, and consistent practice to build technique. Students will learn foundational toprock, footwork, freezes, rhythm, coordination, and body control while developing confidence and creativity. Breaking is a disciplined art form rooted in respect for the culture, the instructor, fellow students, and the space. Students are expected to follow directions, participate respectfully, and remain engaged in class activities. Students who are unable to do so may be asked to sit out or leave class at the instructor's discretion. To support continued progress, all enrolled students receive access to online practice videos that reinforce the skills taught in class and encourage at-home training between sessions. No experience required.

HIPHOP (Beginner)

Prospect Heights · Prospect Heights

Hip-hop is more than choreography. It's a culture built on creativity, community, and self-expression. In this beginner class, students will learn foundational hip-hop movement through drills, freestyle exercises, musicality training, and age-appropriate combinations. Rather than preparing for recitals, students develop rhythm, confidence, discipline, and their own unique style. This is a serious dance class designed for students who are ready to focus, learn, and engage with the art form in a meaningful way.

Littles introduces movement foundations and freestyle through the culture of hip hop. Toddlers must be able to walk! Taught in a dance-party-style format, toddlers and caregivers jumping, bouncing, stomping, social dancing, imaginative movement, and our signature Toddler Cypher. Classes also include somatic movement, caregiver-assisted tricks, story time, and introductions to Brooklyn hip hop culture. At Rikud, we believe children learn to dance for life, not for recitals. Our goal is to help little ones become comfortable moving, grooving, and expressing themselves in community. Along the way, children build coordination, rhythm, confidence, body awareness, and social connection while developing a foundation for freestyle and a lifelong love of movement.
