MiniMovers: Jazz & Tap is an energetic introduction to two of America's great dance traditions. While Rikud specializes in hip hop and breaking, we believe young dancers benefit from understanding the broader lineage of Black American social dance . Tap develops rhythm, timing, and musicality, while Vernacular Jazz introduces the groove, improvisation, and movement concepts that helped shape many of the street and club dances practiced today. Students will build coordination, balance, listening skills, and confidence while exploring foundational movement through age-appropriate drills, games, and creative exploration. At Rikud, dance is more than steps. It's culture, music, rhythm, and history in motion.
Vernacular Jazz is one of the foundational social dances that helped shape the rhythms, musicality, improvisation, and movement vocabulary found in many street and club dance styles today. In this class, students will explore classic jazz steps, rhythm training, improvisation, and social dance traditions while learning about the Black American communities that created them. At Rikud, we believe understanding where dance comes from is just as important as learning the moves. By studying Vernacular Jazz, dancers deepen their understanding of groove, expression, and the cultural lineage that connects jazz, hip hop, and breaking.

To protect the integrity of our training program and the safety and focus of our students, if your child is under six years old, we required that you enroll in a MiniMovers class. Breaking Intermediate Designed for students who have completed approximately 3-6 months of foundational breaking training, this class builds on established skills and introduces more advanced concepts, combinations, transitions, freezes, musicality, and movement vocabulary. Students will refine their technique while developing greater strength, control, endurance, creativity, and personal style. Classes follow a structured, drill-based training format that emphasizes repetition, technique, and consistent practice. Unlike many recreational activities, progress in breaking requires focus, discipline, and training both in and outside of class. All enrolled students receive access to online training videos to support continued practice between sessions. Breaking is a disciplined art form rooted in respect for the culture, the instructor, fellow students, and the space. Students are expected to arrive ready to train, accept corrections, and contribute positively to the learning environment. Enrollment is by instructor recommendation or demonstrated proficiency in foundational breaking skills.
This program is for students who are able to focus. It is not a play-based program. Please enroll in MiniMovers if your child is under 6 or is learning to sustain attention. Breaking Foundations (Absolute Beginner) Designed for kids with little to no breaking experience, this class introduces the fundamentals of breaking through a structured, drill-based training format. Unlike many recreational children's activities, breaking requires repetition, focus, and consistent practice to build technique. Students will learn foundational toprock, footwork, freezes, rhythm, coordination, and body control while developing confidence and creativity. Breaking is a disciplined art form rooted in respect for the culture, the instructor, fellow students, and the space. Students are expected to follow directions, participate respectfully, and remain engaged in class activities. Students who are unable to do so may be asked to sit out or leave class at the instructor's discretion. To support continued progress, all enrolled students receive access to online practice videos that reinforce the skills taught in class and encourage at-home training between sessions. A Hip-Hop & Hang class designed for early dismissal Fridays! Students are picked up from school and brought to the studio to enjoy a hip-hop and breaking class, have a snack, and hang out with friends before heading home. The perfect way to spend a Friday afternoon during the winter.
In our Mini Maker playgroup we provide invitations to create by setting up simple art materials and textures for kids to play with and explore. We encourage messy and safe play, using food-safe materials, so mini makers can discover art with all their senses.

Toddler Time at the Trunk - A Pint-Sized Pre-Preschool Experience
Prepare your little one for their next big step into the classroom with Toddler Time at the Trunk - A Pint-Sized Pre-Preschool Experience! This program, led by our experienced and nurturing teaching artists, will begin to gently expose your child to a classroom environment and encourage them to cultivate independent, creative connections with their peers and teachers. Through a lens of the creative and theatrical arts, we will strengthen your little learner’s social-emotional skills and start them on a path of empathetic community-building that is so important in our world today. This class is parent/caregiver attended, and packed with fun and imaginative play! Kiddos will be welcomed into our beautiful space with a morning choice-time where they will explore storybooks, toys, a costume corner, a play-kitchen, and more. Then, we will transition into circle time, accompanied by live music while we sing some of their favorite songs. We’ll discover an art project and book inside our treasure trunk and then head off to create art, eat a snack, and listen to the story of the day. Our day will conclude with a goodbye circle and songs! We hope you will join us for a season of fun, creativity, learning and growing! Ideal for ages 14-28 months.

Join us for a tale as old as time, as we explore this timeless story about adventure and friendship, through singing, dancing and acting! Students will be introduced to key skills in collaboration and self expression, building confidence and strengthening social emotional learning skills...all through the fun of musical theatre! The session will end with a short performance for families to enjoy. Looking for an engaging, convenient, safe, and creative option for your kiddo in the neighborhood with school pick up options? Seek no further, because Treasure Trunk has you covered! With options Monday through Friday, your child will be safely walked from their school (drop-off options also available, if preferred!) and welcomed into a world of imagination and dramatic play, led by our talented teaching artists who are both theatrical and childcare professionals. TIMING: All days run 3:00-5:00pm, with an optional extended day from 5:00-6:00pm Please Note: Students registered for Extended Day at Brooklyn Brainery will be walked to TT Prospect Heights (700 Washington Ave) for the 5-6pm portion of the day. Welcome to our Little Makers After-School Enrichment! Little Makers is a hands-on art studio for the curious and creative. We find joy in the making, not just the finished product. Our after school program is designed for children ages 4-9. Each afternoon includes a variety of open-ended creative experiences, play, movement, and time with friends. Join us Monday through Thursday, afternoons from 3-5:30pm. Semester enrollments include FREE school pickup from PS 9 and PS 282, and extended care is available. Single-day registrations are also available as drop-offs at our studio.Enrollment is limited to keep the group small and provide personalized attention to your child. Please Note: We offer school pick-up from PS282 and PS9 for semester-long enrollments only. Single-day registrations are drop-off only . If your child attends a nearby school and you're interested in pick-up options, feel free to reach out—we may be able to arrange it.
