This hands-on program invites children to explore their creativity and fine motor skills through free play with Play-Doh. Children will engage in sensory exploration, shaping, and molding while learning about textures and colors. No registration required; space is limited.
It’s time to celebrate our young readers who have been listening to hundreds and hundreds of books! Please attend to give our first congrats to the children who have completed their 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program. We will update your child’s reading logs and prizes or sign up any new members. There will also be time to read aloud to your child to update their tracking logs. Light refreshments will be provided. Registration only.

Celebrate the publication Shibu's New Friend with author Tess Thomas (recommended for ages 4-8)

Join author Tess Thomas for a special storytime at the Montclair Public Library! Tess will read her debut picture book, SHIBU'S TAIL, as well as her brand-new sequel, SHIBU'S NEW FRIEND. The books follow the adventures of a cat named Shibu, who has big feelings and an even bigger tail. SHIBU'S TAIL has earned four starred reviews, multiple best-of-year lists, and has been published in over 18 different countries. Following the readings, Tess will answer questions from the audience and lead young readers in a Shibu and Dottie-themed craft. Copies of SHIBU'S TAIL and SHIBU'S NEW FRIEND will be available for purchase and signing following the event. Registration is recommended but not required. Tess Thomas is a writer living in Hoboken, New Jersey. She started her storytelling career at the age of four, when she would dictate tales about her imaginary friends, Sami the cat and Doodie the dog, and send them to her grandparents. Her first book, SHIBU'S TAIL, earned four starred reviews, multiple best-of-year lists, and has been published in over a dozen different languages. Tess’ favorite part of being an author is visiting schools, libraries, and bookstores to connect with young readers. She loves french fries, her kids, and her husband (sometimes in that order). SHIBU'S NEW FRIEND Shibu and Dottie are as different as cats and dogs — but maybe they have more in common than they think in this charming sequel to the international hit SHIBU'S TAIL! Shibu has a lot of friends and they have a lot in common. It’s a lot of fun! But then comes … Dottie. Dottie is a DOG and she does things a bit differently. She barks instead of purrs. Broadway Bound

This program meets weekly on Saturdays for nine weeks, with an additional session on Friday, November 20 for showcase rehearsal. On Saturday, November 21, students will meet from 9:00 AM–12:00 PM for final the final dress rehearsal before presenting their cabaret-style showcase at 3:00 PM. Throughout the program, students will train in dance, vocals, and acting while working with their teachers to refine their pieces and performance skills. The experience culminates in a showcase featuring students’ favorite pieces for friends, family, and fans!
