About kids' events in Montclair
Getting out with a small kid in Montclair usually means a short walk or drive to a playground, a stop at the local library branch, and picking one thing to do that day. The public library runs free toddler programming, and the town’s main streets have a few studios where you can drop into a music or movement class without much planning. Right now on our calendar, the mix leans toward performance. Two theater events and two shows are listed, including a dance concert series at Memorial Auditorium at Montclair State University and a showcase at Vanguard Theater Company. The New Jersey School of Dramatic Arts has a playwriting workshop, which skews older, but the library is running an early childhood music class in Spanish for babies up to age three. DanceWorks Studios is also active here. That gives you about six listings total, with a handful from the past six months, so the calendar is light but real. Driving is the main way around, with parking near downtown doable. For Manhattan, NJ Transit rail gets you there, but day-to-day errands with a toddler are easier by car.
