Kids' Events in Hamilton Heights

About kids' events in Hamilton Heights

Up in the 140s and 150s on the west side of Manhattan, Hamilton Heights has a quieter, slower pace than most of the island. The blocks are lined with early 20th-century townhouses and rowhouses, and there's noticeably more green space than you'd expect this far into the borough. Riverbank State Park sits right on the Hudson at 145th Street and is a genuine workhorse for families year-round: playgrounds, a wading pool with sprinklers, a carousel whose animals were designed by local schoolkids, and a covered skating rink that flips between ice and roller depending on the season. St. Nicholas Park runs along the eastern edge of the neighborhood with playground space and room to roam. The Hamilton Grange branch of the New York Public Library runs regular playdates and drop-in programs for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, all free. The 1, A, C, B, and D trains all stop in the neighborhood, so you can get downtown without a car. Weekends here feel genuinely residential, with strollers out on Broadway and parents who actually live in the area rather than pass through it.
