A big, spread-out Brooklyn neighborhood in the far east of the borough, East New York is mostly made up of row houses, apartment buildings, and wide, flat streets that are easy to push a stroller along on a weekday morning. It's not a place with a lot of programming built specifically for toddlers, so finding things to do takes a little more intention, which is exactly why 22 events on this calendar can actually be useful. The New Lots branch of Brooklyn Public Library anchors a lot of what's available for small kids here, with story times and drop-in programs that run through the week. There are also several neighborhood playgrounds scattered around, good for burning energy any afternoon. NYC Parks brings some of those outdoor programs right into the community, and visiting studios like Tiny Greenhouse and Carriage House Birth add classes you might not expect to find this far east in Brooklyn. Getting around is doable on the J, Z, or C trains, though like much of outer Brooklyn, some weekend service changes are worth checking before you head out.
