About kids' events in Van Vorst Park
A two-acre square of brownstone-lined green in downtown Jersey City, Van Vorst Park has been a genuine gathering spot for young families for years. The park itself has two playgrounds, a sandbox, a splash pad that runs in summer, and paved paths calm enough for a slow-moving toddler. No ball sports are allowed, so it stays at a lower volume than most city parks on weekends. The Jersey City Free Public Library's main branch sits right on Jersey Avenue at the park's edge, with storytime and drop-in kids' programming throughout the year. For something more structured, Tiny Greenhouse is a local art studio on Jersey Ave that runs classes for kids from about 18 months up, mixing sensory play, painting, and open-ended making. Getting here is straightforward: the Grove Street PATH station is a short walk north, and the light rail at Jersey Avenue is just as close, so you can arrive easily without a car. The neighborhood itself is mostly young families and long-time residents living in converted brownstones, and the Saturday farmers market in the park gives the whole area a regular, low-key weekend rhythm.
