Kids' Events in Midtown East

About kids' events in Midtown East

Midtown East sits squarely in the middle of Manhattan, running roughly from 42nd Street up to 59th, east of Fifth Avenue toward the river. On paper it looks like office towers and tourist crowds, but families who live here know the quieter corners well. St. Vartan Park, between First and Second Avenues in the high 30s, has a dedicated tot-sized jungle gym, baby swings, and a seasonal sprinkler. The Grand Central branch of the New York Public Library on East 46th Street is an easy stop for story time, and the big Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library on Fifth at 40th has a full lower-level floor for kids. The 4, 5, and 6 trains run through Grand Central, and the cross streets east of Lex are calm to push a stroller on, though weekday middays feel more like a commuter corridor than a neighborhood until you get away from the avenues. Weekends are noticeably quieter once office workers clear out. With 71 upcoming events on the calendar, including programs from Art & Heart and NYC Parks, there is a real amount happening here for the under-five set.
