About kids' events in Bushwick
A mostly residential Brooklyn neighborhood that's been changing fast, Bushwick has a real mix of long-rooted families and newer arrivals packed into rowhouses, apartment buildings, and converted warehouses. The side streets feel quieter than the main commercial strips, and mural-covered walls are everywhere, which makes even a routine stroll feel like something worth doing with a curious two-year-old. For outdoor time, Maria Hernandez Park is the neighborhood's biggest green space and draws families on weekends. Bushwick Playground on Knickerbocker Avenue has a dedicated toddler section, a splash pad for warm months, and benches for grown-ups. Both are solid, well-used spots rather than destination playgrounds, which is honestly fine for a kid who just wants to run somewhere. The L train runs through the neighborhood, and the J and M trains add more options along Broadway, so getting in and out without a car is doable. The elevated lines mean stairs at most stations, so plan accordingly with your stroller. On the library front, the Brooklyn Public Library's DeKalb Branch draws programming for little kids, and kidBILT runs classes here too. With 18 upcoming events on the calendar, there's more going on than the neighborhood's reputation for nightlife might suggest.
