About kids' events in Central Park
Manhattan's most famous park is also one of the most useful places to spend a morning with a one- to four-year-old. The park's 21 playgrounds are spread across its length from 59th to 110th Street, so there is almost always one within a short walk of wherever you enter. The Tarr-Coyne Tots Playground, near the West 67th Street entrance, is designed specifically for young children, with sand, water play, and smaller-scale climbing structures. On the southeast side, the Tisch Children's Zoo is open year-round and lets toddlers hand-feed goats, sheep, and pigs, including the only cow in Manhattan. The park sits at the center of the Upper East Side and Upper West Side, two of the most family-saturated neighborhoods in the city, so weekend mornings here feel noticeably kid-heavy. Multiple subway lines stop at the park's edges, and the wide paths inside are easy to navigate with a stroller. NYC Parks organizes regular programming here for little kids, and Mommy Poppins is a good local resource for tracking what's coming up. Summer adds splash pad water features to most playgrounds, which changes the math considerably on hot days.
