About kids' events in East Harlem
Up in Upper Manhattan, East Harlem runs from 96th Street north and sits right at the top edge of Central Park. That location matters: the East 110th Street Playground, which overlooks the Harlem Meer, is one of the most popular spots in the north end of the park and works well for toddlers, with climbing blocks, swings, and ducks to stare at when the climbing gets old. Closer to home, the neighborhood has a good number of NYC Parks playgrounds scattered through its long avenues and housing complexes, so you're rarely far from somewhere to run around. The NYPL's 125th Street branch just finished a $34 million renovation and reopened in 2024 with a dedicated children's library, making it a go-to for storytime and rainy days. NYC Parks runs programming here too, which is where the 40 upcoming events on this calendar come from. Getting around is straightforward. The 4, 5, and 6 trains run along Lexington Avenue, giving you quick access to the rest of Manhattan. The streets are flat and wide, and the neighborhood is genuinely residential, the kind of place where you see kids in strollers on a Tuesday morning, not just on weekends.
