Washington Square Park anchors the neighborhood and has a playground on its east side where kids can run freely, plus a fountain that draws toddlers all summer. A short walk west, Pier 51 on the Hudson River has a nautical-themed playground with water features that families return to again and again. For a rainy day, the Jefferson Market Library on Sixth Avenue has a dedicated children's room and runs storytimes and craft sessions, inside a building that looks so much like a castle that kids stop in their tracks at the door. Day-to-day, the Village is extremely walkable and most errands get done on foot. The side streets are quiet enough on weekends that pushing a stroller doesn't feel like an obstacle course.
