About kids' events in Sunset Park
A big, lived-in Brooklyn neighborhood where you'll see strollers on stoops and kids running everywhere. The streets are lined with century-old row houses, and the feel on a weekend is local and unhurried, the kind of place where neighbors actually know each other. The anchor for outdoor time is Sunset Park itself, a 24-acre hilltop green space with a renovated playground, a water play area, and an outdoor pool open all summer. On a clear day you can see the Statue of Liberty from the top, which is a genuinely nice thing to tell a toddler. Bush Terminal Park along the waterfront adds another option when you want open space and harbor views. The Brooklyn Public Library branch here runs regular programming for young kids, and Rockness Music is one of the local studios with events in the neighborhood. Getting around on foot works well within the flat stretches, though some blocks climb the hill steeply. The R, D, and N trains all stop nearby, making it easy to come from other parts of Brooklyn or Manhattan without a car. After class, the main commercial strips have dim sum spots, taquerias, and Japanese bakeries within easy reach.
